When you’re looking at all of the cables in your local music store it’s really easy to become overwhelmed with the huge number of choices.  Prices can range from just a few bucks to over a hundred dollars for cables that look nearly the same.  What makes each one different is the materials and craftsmanship that goes into its creation.  The best cables are going to have silver or copper cores that let the signal from your guitar make it to your amp with the least amount of loss and interference.  These high-end cables are usually only for studio use and may be overkill for your practice or live setup.

To find the right one for you it’s important to determine your budget before hand.  This is especially true if you’re known for busting cables or connections frequently (I am!).  Once you have your budget figured out you can start looking at cables that fit your range.  I recommend going to your local guitar shop and asking them to pull some out for you to try.  Actually playing them on a setup that is similar to yours is going to make the biggest impact on your decision.  You want a cable that feels sturdy at the connections and makes your tone sound how you want it to sound.
